Donations are urgently needed for Legal Action for Women’s Emergency Fund. This fund aims to help cover food, travel (including to legal and health appointments) and other essential items for the many women seeking asylum who come to the Crossroads Women’s Centre. Most are survivors of rape or other torture, some fled homophobia, political persecution and/or trafficking. Many are destitute and struggling to survive; some are mothers trying to feed their children. Travel and childcare for the fortnightly All African Women’s Group meetings, which over 30 women attend regularly, comes to over £200 each time. These meetings are essential as it is through them that women organise mutual support and work on their own and others’ cases resulting in many victories. Some women have gone on to win their case; others have found lawyers and got their claims re-opened; a number of women have been detained and with support won their release. Several women have been housed or got better housing, received alternative health care, started college etc. Your financial help will enable us to continue with this lifesaving work.
